When experiencing poor internet connection with your Guardian/gateway, here are our recommendations.
Note: Guardian/gateway devices only connect to 2.4GHz networks. If you do not have a 2.4GHz network, please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to create a secondary network with 2.4GHz a band.
Use a third-party application to test internet connection.
Standard internet speed tests that measure upload and download speeds in Mbps are NOT the types of tests that relate to reliable gateway connection
Wi-fi signal strength is the most important metric to ensure reliable gateway connection. This is measured in decibel milliwatts [dBm].
-30dBm is considered perfect signal strength.
-60dBm is the cutoff for reliable gateway connection.
Between -60dBm and -90dBm is considered not connected
If your connection does not meet the requirements state above, refer to the following options written in order of preference from best to worst.
Use a hard-wired ethernet connection between your main router and the Guardian/gateway device
For the Avalon product line, an ethernet cable can be plugged directly into the SEP as shown in the appendix
For the 48V products that use the external gateway, an ethernet cable can be plugged into the device itself, as shown in the appendix
Use a hard-wired ethernet connection between your Wi-Fi extender and the Guardian/gateway device
Refer to above to make proper connections
Use a Wi-Fi extender to strengthen your Wi-fi signal if hard-wired ethernet is not an option

Use a third-party antenna to strengthen the signal produced by the Guardian/gateway
